THE GOOD DAUGHTER by Karin Slaughter - Vanity Fair 'Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy Are Southern Sisters With Secrets in The Good Daughter First Look'

Vanity Fair | September 10, 2026

Even in an era rife with twisty true crime stories, and predominantly female audiences eager to consume them, the women behind The Good Daughter know their show’s opening is a tough watch. Like the best-selling 2017 Karin Slaughter novel on which it is based, the Peacock series starring Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy as Southern sisters begins decades earlier, on the day a childhood home invasion ends in their mother’s (Olivia Williams) murder. Several years on from that fateful attack, another shocking act of gun violence forces the estranged sisters back together at the insistence of their defense attorney father (Brendan Gleeson). And that’s just in the first 15 minutes.

WILL TRENT by Karin Slaughter - Entertainment Weekly 'The 30 best detective shows of all time, ranked'

Entertainment Weekly | August 31, 2026

If you love investigative procedurals as much as we do, you already know many of the greats. One of fiction’s most enduring genres, detective stories are built to thrill, tantalize, and confuse us.

At their best, they immerse audiences in twisted webs of intrigue and give us a ringside seat to detectives doing what they do best. Many reliable snoops have graced our living rooms for so long that they’ve become a sort of macabre second family.

#7 Will Trent (2023–present)

Based on Karin Slaughter’s gritty series of books, this likable ABC procedural stars Ramón Rodriguez as the titular Special Agent, a dyslexic former foster kid who just so happens to have the highest clearance rate among his peers at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

A throwback tone and terrific casting boost this consistently entertaining adaptation, which takes the material in enough of its own direction that you could easily read Slaughter’s books without knowing the plot’s every turn. In addition to sharp writing, Will Trent boasts a wonderful turn from Erika Christensen (as Will’s childhood pal and fellow foster kid, now a homicide cop) and a very cute tag-along puppy dog.

THE HUNTING WIVES by May Cobb - People ''The Hunting Wives': Why Everyone, Including My Mother, Is Watching'

People | August 7, 2025

If it feels like everyone and their mother is watching The Hunting Wives, it’s because they are. Literally. My mom just texted me that she’s watching the show. (I knew those gals in her canasta group were a bad influence on her.)

The Netflix series, which is based on the May Cobb book of the same name, makes those other “wives” shows (Desperate Housewives, Real Housewives, Mormon Wives) look like Bluey.

THE HUNTING WIVES by May Cobb - Deadline 'The Hunting Wives’ Soars Atop Luminate’s TV Streaming Rankings After Netflix Debut As ‘And Just Like That…’ Reps HBO Max In Top 25 Amid Cancellation'

Deadline | August 5, 2025

The Hunting Wives was the most-streamed series in the U.S. last week, racking up more than 2B minutes viewed on Netflix, per a new report from Luminate.

This is a pretty big win for Lionsgate Television, which produced the series that up until around two months ago was set for release on Starz. As of now, The Hunting Wives is only licensed to Netflix for U.S. distribution — not that that seems to have impacted its performance very much. In fact, the title is doing particularly well for a U.S.-only streaming series, more than doubling its viewership from the week prior, when it managed 811M minutes viewed in its debut week on Netflix, according to Luminate.

THE HUNTING WIVES by May Cobb - People 'The Hunting Wives Author May Cobb Didn't Have Grocery Money. What Happened Next Changed Everything (Exclusive)'

People | August 2, 2025

The Hunting Wives author May Cobb didn’t know where grocery money was going to come from when a phone call changed her life.

Cobb started her writing journey 25 years ago, with a nonfiction book about a jazz musician she admits she “still has to finish,” but after loving books like Gone Girl and Girl on the Train, decided to try her hand at thrillers. Her debut, Big Woods, came out in 2018 and while it was well reviewed, sales weren’t enough to make a dent in their finances.
