SCOTT SHEPHERD was born in New York City but moved to California around the time he first started crawling. He has resided in the Golden State pretty much ever since. Growing up in Los Angeles, he saw plenty of movies and Dodger games before heading up north to get his B.A. in English at Stanford University.

Scott is a veteran writer/producer/show-runner with years of experience running network series, having overseen hundreds of hours of television. His extensive list of credits includes some of the most popular hit series from the past three decades: “The Equalizer,” “Miami Vice,” “Quantum Leap,” “Tru Calling,” and “The Dead Zone” to name a few. He has also collaborated with a number of best-selling novelists on various television projects including Stephen King, Harlan Coben and Karin Slaughter.

He is also currently teaching television writing in the graduate program at the University of Texas, Austin. When he isn’t trying to make a television deadline, you’ll probably find Scott traveling with his wife Holly somewhere—usually to a big sporting event or wherever Bruce Springsteen is playing.

DESCENDING SON

47North – February 1, 2014

If Jess Stark really knew what was on the other side of the coffin lid, he might just decide to remain six feet under…

Jess stayed away from Palm Springs for seven years, avoiding his family and the girl who broke his heart. It took a desperate call from his mother to force him home to see his ailing father. As soon as he returned, Jess found himself embroiled in two suspicious deaths, emotional turmoil with his family, and a supernatural secret that involved them all—winding up in an unmarked grave in the middle of the Coachella Desert.

In a tale that spreads from the California Desert to the jungles of Mexico and set in a town that time has practically forgotten, Descending Son is rooted in the sins of Jess’s past and a future that threatens his life. Sure, Jess can go home again, but there’s a heavy price to pay.

Praise for Scott Shepherd and DESCENDING SON

“Scott Shepherd should be on every reader’s radar in 2013. First with the serialized novel The Seventh Day, and followed by Descending Son, his gifts for storytelling will provide steady rewards. Drawing on diverse influences that range from horror and fantasy to classic noir, Shepherd’s voice is decidedly unique, and while his storytelling may absorb the focus, with his cinematic gifts for action and cliffhangers, it is in his understanding of the human heart that his writing steps forward and shines.“—Michael Koryta, New York Times bestselling author of The Prophet

“With vivid characters, provocative insights, and rapid-fire twists, Scott Shepherd redefines and sweetens storytelling, serving up satisfying nail-biters.“—Karin Slaughter, New York Times bestselling author of The Last Widow
