We have recently been made aware that someone falsely representing themselves as Victoria Sanders has contacted self-published authors, and attempted to induce them to pay fees for marketing and authorize an option of manuscripts for film.

If you are contacted in this manner, please contact us as soon as possible. We have filed a police report and— as we continue to pursue this matter — any information you can give us will help. Please note the telephone number this person called you from and send us any emails or other communications from them.

We do not ask clients or potential clients to pay us money to read their work or provide other services. We offer representation based on our review (at our cost) of submissions received (a/k/a queries), and pursuant to our written agreements with clients, we are compensated solely on a commission percentage basis upon sale or other license of a client’s manuscript.

Victoria Sanders

I founded Victoria Sanders & Associates in 1992, following law school graduation, and after working in the legal/contracts department of Simon & Schuster, and at two literary agencies. I represent a multi-cultural roster of internationally bestselling and award-winning authors, I endeavor to seek out and champion new and diverse voices and viewpoints. As a literary agent for these 25 years, I've taken great pride in having represented many of my clients for their entire careers. I am honored to work with the extraordinary group of visionary writers and thinkers who grace this agency, the publishing marketplace, and their devoted readers.

DIANE DICKENSHEID

As the co-founder of VSA, I facilitate the legal, financial, administrative, and regulatory needs of VSA. If it makes your eyes glaze over, it’s my department. Glamorous? No, but it supports the important work of nurturing new voices and making the world a better place through the written word. I graduated from Smith College in 1982 (including a year abroad in the certificate program for foreign students at L’institut d’etudes politiques in Paris) where I majored in Comparative Literature. After a few years in NYC as a litigation paralegal, karate student, and member of a collective that published a monthly women’s newspaper, I attended Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and graduated magna cum laude in 1988. I was the general counsel of a financial guarantee insurance company and, prior to that, counsel at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft where I represented entrepreneurs and worked on complex financial products and transactions. I love stories, dogs, and gardening.

Bernadette Baker-Baughman

After completing a Master’s Degree in Writing at Portland State University, and spending several years in-house (first editorial, then marketing) I began agenting in 2005. I have worked with VSA since 2010. I am drawn to strong storytelling in all genres, though I have a special interest in thrillers, contemporary novels, magical realism, young adult, and books for kids. I am also open to pop-culture, gift books, and memoir. I love smart writing, high concept books, work with great emotional resonance, and humor. I am always looking for authors with a distinctive voice. I’ve represented a number of New York Times bestselling and award winning writers and illustrators, including Leslye Walton, Faith Erin Hicks, Tony Cliff, Maris Wicks, Liv Constantine, and Carson Morton, to name a few.
